Congratulations to Erica Campbell, from the duo Mary Mary, who gave birth to a 6 lb., 12 oz. baby girl on Tuesday, January 24. The baby girl, Zaya Monique, is the third child for Campbell and her husband, producer-songwriter Warryn Campbell.

The singer said she was blessed by the baby’s birth and said the family “couldn’t be more happy than we are today.”

The birth of her daughter comes just a few days after the announcement that the duo, grabbed a nomination for the 43rd NAACP Image Awards Outstanding Gospel Album category (which airs February 17th)!

We wish them the best!

Sunday Best Recap: Season 4 Episode 5

Sunday Best Season 4

William McDowell or better yet the audience sung “I Give Myself Away”, which is one of my favorite songs. You can check out the performance below and let me know what you think, I will refrain from making comments on it. On to the contestants..

First up was the battle with three contestants,Shanandolan Reynolds (whom I think have an uncanny resemblance to Mary Mary’s Tina Campbell),Latrice Smith, and Timesha Sampson singing “Jesus Loves Me”, to vie for the tenth spot.

Michael Pugh is the first contestant to grace the stage. What can I say? He is simply amazing. I am not sure what other words to use to describe his voice. He just sings so smoothly, effortlessly, just awesome!

Next up was Andrea Helms, with a very emotional performance of Mary Mary’s Yesterday. She really puts her heart into her singing. Donnie McClurkin felt that her performance was “perfect” as far as he was concerned.

Isaiah Freeman, IV, singing All I Need.I think he did a good job, but I wish he would have did a bit more. But overall good job, I think the performance was a bit reminiscent of a Boyz II Men performance.

Next..Sue Roseberry aka Mama Sue! I love me some Mama Sue! She takes me to church everytime! She had the entire audience on their feet! And she danced on the stage, you have to check out that performance! The judges love her and so do I!

Monica Smith..she is a good performer. I love the raspy sound of her voice, it is unique.

Note: There is an issue with the video skipping during the singing battle but the rest of the video is fine! (Hey don’t blame me, blame BET)

“God Has Given Me This Child”, says Fantasia as she announces pregnancy

Fantasia pregnant

Over the weekend, recording artist Fantasia Barrino announced her pregnancy while performing in Jacksonville. This comes after months of speculation throughout the web.

Fantasia made no mention of the rumored father, Antwuan Cook, but simply stated to her audience “You are the first person that I share this news with. And I share this with you because I can relate to you. And for a while I walked around figuring out what will they say and what will they think about me. But now I tell you I don’t live my life for folk.”

Many are outraged about Fantasia’s pregnancy, amid all the controversy surrounding the marriage of the rumored father. However, I have no thoughts on the conception of Fantasia’s child, she is human, and we all have made mistakes.

I do not agree with sleeping with a married person, under any circumstances but I strongly believe that you should NEVER be embarrassed by what God has chosen for you to endure. I am glad she decided to not let herself succumb to the perceived public embarrassment, and decided to deliver the news in a venue as a public testimony!

Sunday’s Best Recap: Season 4 Episode 4

Sunday Best Season 4

Smokie Norful opened up the show singing “Sunday Morning Medley” from his new CD. He certainly got everyone up on their feet! Now on to the contestants…

Remember last week everyone was blown away by Michael Pugh’s performance of “I won’t complain”. Who blew you away this week?

First up was twenty eight year old Cincinnati resident, Isaiah Freeman IV, singing “My Life Is In Your Hands.” The judges loved him. Erica felt his sound had a Fred Hammond kind of sound to it. I think he did good.

Next up was Annalisha Robbins singing “The Battle Is Not Yours.” She didn’t do bad, but I wish she would have put a little bit more into it. She seemed a bit nervous. Donnie said he want her to just “relax a little”.

Now, twenty two year old Tennessee resident, Roosevelt Griffin singing “Total Praise.” I don’t know if it was the song choice or what, but this performance wasn’t that good to me. He did okay. Tina didn’t like that there was no shock value by him staying at that high range and not building up to it. There seems to be a lot of mixed reviews on this performance. What do you think?

Next up, Sue Roseberry from Midland, TX singing “The Lord Will Make A Way Somehow”. She is grandmother of 15! I loved her performance! Felt like I was sitting in someone church! She got a standing ovation and ummhh yeah, she deserved it!

Eric Drew, from Los Angeles was next singing “The Presence Of The Lord Is Here.” I know they have a short time up there but for some reason his performance felt rushed to me. I mean there is no question in my mind that he can sing, it was just moving fast and I didn’t get a “wow” factor. The judges weren’t impressed either.

Next up, another Midland, TX resident, Felecia Russell. She sung “Encourage Yourself”. Like the judges, I thought she could do more. The girl has some vocals on her but just needs to let her confidence shine through.

Then Quentin Bethea from Charlotte, NC. Tina felt like his nerves got the best of him. He had some pitch problems but I hope to see him back. I love the fact that he continued to try out and finally made it to the top 20.

Next up was Timesha Sampson from Memphis, singing “There Is No Way I Can Live Without You.” I think she kind of oversung the song. I agree with Erica, it just seemed like it was all over the place.

There was then Brian Ezra Bates, from Alabama! He seemed excited and nervous at the same time! The judges pretty much felt the same way.

Finally, there was thirty year old Monica Smith from Alabama, singing “Silver & Gold” ! She was awesome! She is definitely confident in her abilities and there is no doubt she is going to bring it in this competition!

The judges couldn’t decide on a top 10 so they chose 9 and then will have 3 that will battle for the 10th spot!

The Top Nine are..

1. Amber Bullock
2. Michael Pugh
3. Isaiah Freeman
4. Monica Smith
5. Michael Washington
6. Andrea Helms
7. Carlington Roberts
8. Sue Roseberry
9. Felecia Russell

And the three singers that will compete for the 10th spot are:

1. Timesha Sampson
2. Latrice Smith
3. Shanandolan Reynolds

Sunday Best Season 4
I couldn’t sit still anticipating the voices tonight! I was excited 🙂 Now, let’s recap:

Kirk Franklin opens up with “I Smile” which for some reason always puts a smile on my face! 

Now onto the show! Auditions are out the way and it is now time to see what these contestants are really made of.

First up, Toneisha Harris performing “Here I am To Worship”. The girl can definitely sing, but I wasn’t really feeling the performance. The judges didn’t seem very impressed either. But like I said, the girl has talent.

Next up was Michael Washington singing Donnie McClurkin’s “Great Is Your Mercy.” That was a bit bold and I think may ultimately be costly. There was just no “wow” factor in the performance. But I am hoping he gets another chance.

Moving on..Andrea Helms came next singing “Because Of Who You Are.” I actually really liked this one. She did a good job to me.

Chase Stancle was next singing “Running Back To You”. The judges were really not impressed with her performance on this one.

Amber Bullock then comes next, singing “We Must Praise” by J. Moss. Amber is in this competition to win it. She really did a great job. We will be seeing her a few more weeks to come!

Carlington Roberts followed with “Lord I Lift Your Name On High.” He had an interesting interpretation of the song. Not bad but just wasn’t really good to me. I don’t know. What do you all think?

Shanandonlan Reynolds was next performing “Joyful Joyful.” Every time I hear this song I think of the movie Sister Act! Anyway, back to the performance. It was okay..I will just leave it at that.

All I have to say is…Michael Pugh! He took it all the way back, singing “I Won’t Complain”. I am not sure how to accurately describe his performance, ummmmmhh Awesome, Amazing, Excellent, …all seem to fall a bit short!

Next up was Latrice Smith singing “Walk With Me”. The judges were impressed, I was impressed..this woman of God has talent!! She will be here for a few more weeks, definitely!

And last but not least, was Rikki Valentino LaFontaine singing “I Need Thee.” I felt like he could have did a bit more but he nonetheless did a good job.

That is all folks! Be sure to check back next week when we listen to the next 10, Timesha Sampson, Sue Roseberry, Roosevelt Griffin, Quentin Bethea, Monica Smith,Isaiah Freeman, Felicia Russell, Eric Drew, Brian Ezra Bates and Annalisha Robbins. I can’t wait!
