Recap: Episode 11 of BET’s Sunday’s Best Season 3 [Final Two Contestants]

Sunday's Best Season 3

Oh wow!! It seems like it came so quick this year, but here we are down to the final two contestants. Elder Goldwire McLendon and LeeAndria Johnson. Let me first say, I really loved the performance by Ledisi and the wonderful Vanessa Bell Armstrong. Goldwire and LeeAndria did their thang. Now LeeAndria got some pipes on her, the way she sung “Running Back To You” was ..I mean..just WOW! And Goldwire with “I Know It Was The Blood”, AMAZING! I am in awe!

They are both so good but for so many different reasons. If it was only up to singing abilities, I think LeeAndria Johnson would win hands down. However, the annointing over Elder Goldwire McLendon is simply amazing and at 79 years old!! I mean simply remarkable. I just don’t know. This is a hard one. What do you guys think?

Sunday's Best Season 3

Okay tonight the show was divided into two halves..so double the fun!! For the first half the special guest was Israel Houghton. He sung, “Moving Forward”. I love that song. He did an awesome job. If you don’t already have the album you simply can’t delay in getting it today. It is featured on his latest solo project, entitled “The Power of One” .

The Power Of One

Durward Davis, was up first singing Eric Clapton’s, “Change the World”. He took that song to another level .

LeeAnndria Johnson, singing “Heaven Help Us All”, she did a good job. I wasn’t particularly overwhelmed but she did a good job nonetheless.

Elder Goldwire McLendon was up next. Singing, “Falling in Love With Jesus”. He really delivered. I can’t say too much more. His voice is amazing, his wisdom is empowering, and his endurance is strengthening to all. God bless him!!

Okay, time for the second half. It starts of with special guest, Brian Courtney Wilson, singing one of my favorites, “All I Need”. I was blessed to see him perform live a few months ago and I encourage all to check him out if you ever have a chance.

Durward Davis back up for the second time singing, “I Need You Now”. All the judges felt that he took them on a journey throughout the song. Tina said, “You are just so polished..your presence is so amazing..you are a skilled professional”. Durward always do a good job but his story isn’t as good as LeeAndria and Elder McLendon so I am not sure where that leaves him. Well I guess we will know by the end of the night!!

LeeAndria Johnson, singing “I love the lord he heard my cry..” She sung that song. That girl can sing. Her voice is such a powerhouse. She started shouting at the end and gave a praise that you wouldn’t believe!! Get it LeeAndria!! The judges loved her and so did I. Yolanda said, “You have not seen what God is going to do to you.” Donnie is a preaching brother. God truly speaks to him and I am grateful for it.

Elder Goldwire McLendon, sung “Ole Happy Day”. Tina, “You are just good, good, good…I just love you!”. Yolanda, “..You make us want to keep living for God..”. Donnie McClurkin said, “No matter what happen, you are Sunday’s Best”.

Now, only two can advance to the next round. This was a really hard decision.

And the two finalist are….Elder Goldwire McLendon and LeeAndria Johnson. So it is up to us next week. We have to vote so stay tuned!!!

Recap: Episode 8 of BET’s Sunday’s Best Season 3

Sunday's Best Season 3

Back again..and we are now down to seven finalist..let’s go..

To begin, Chrisette Michelle was the guest artist for today. She sung “Stand”. Chrisette looks amazing and job she did on the song was just as awesome as she looke!!. The theme for tonight was “One Mic”, wherein they limited the musical instruments in an effort to focus on the vocals. Remember we are down to seven finalists so let’s not waste time!!

First up was Dathan Thigpen (You know the handsome brother with the dreadlocks). Tina felt that something about it didn’t quite connect for her. The other judges agreed. He didn’t do as well as I expected. I never really got into his performance and it is sad because his performance last week was great, so you know he is quite capable of doing better.
Next up, Tiffany Carlin-Laird, singing “Goin up Yonder” (one of my favorite songs), and she did a great job. Tina loved it. Yolanda said, “I know that Tremaine Hawkins would love to hear you sing that.” Donnie loved it as well. Without a doubt, we will be seeing her next week.

Durward Davis, was up next. He sung, Kirk Franklin’s “Lean on Me”. I love his range. He really changed the song up, even Kirk Franklin was in awe. Donnie said “What you did in a few minutes with that song was remarkable..” Tina, “That was utter complete shear perfection to me.”

Now, the wild card winner from last week, Martha Burries. It is something about her that I like. Since they decided to bring her back as a wild card pick. And both weeks she has gave stellar performances. So Kudos to the judges for that choice!! As far as her performance tonight, Yolanda said it best when she said, “I think your talent is tremendous”. Tina followed up with “You are probably the most skillful singer in the competition”. Enough said.

Up next…Brian Smith singing Katinas, “Lord I lift my Name on High”. Tina and Yolanda were generous, noting that they liked it. But Donnie felt that it didn’t quite connect for him. I think all 3 judges were right. Brian did a good job singing but I think he could have did more.

LeeAndria Johnson did her THING!! She sung, “Endow Me” by Coko. That girl can sing without a doubt. Yolanda said she is “One of the most phenomenal female voices of our time.” Wow!!

Saving the best for last, Goldwire McLendon, sung “How Great Thou Art”. And once again, he did what he do best. I am constantly amazed by the powerful voice of this man. We should all hope that we have the anointing and power that this man has at 79 years young!!

Now it’s time for elimination and to no surprise Brian Smith and Dathan were sent home. So now we are down to 5 finalists! Can’t wait until next week!!

Recap: Episode 7 of BET’s Sunday’s Best Season 3

Sunday's Best Season 3

Each singer got to sing their song of choice. Judging tonight was Donnie McClurkin, Yolanda Adams, and filling in for Tina, was Kim Burrell. Coming from New Orleans!

.
Kim Burrell served as mentor. First up was Brian Smith. He sung “I won’t Complain”. I thought he had a good performance, I just wanted a bit more. I love the bow tie though. The judges liked him. Yolanda just want him to give a bit more before he get audience participation.

Orlando Wright, YES!! He sung, “Can’t Nobody Do Me Like Jesus”. I thought he did a good job taking control of the song. I felt like I was at church. He was believable.

Next up, they chose a wildcard from the 10 contestants that were not chosen last week. And the winner was…..

Martha Burries. I am glad about that!! She sung..I am sorry but she SUNG “Changed”. GREAT WildCard pick!!! Donnie, “The anointing has filled the room”. She was grea

Franklin Davis IV. He sung Kirk Franklin’s, “Savior, More than Life to Me”. Kim and Yolanda felt like he was concentrating a bit too much. But all felt that his voice is beautiful.

Dathan Thigpen, with his handsome self was up next. He sung Donnie McClurkin’s, “Speak to My Heart” . Donnie, said he loved the presentation of it. Yolanda said, “Your phenomenal”. They loved him and I did to. We will be seeing him next week..No question!

Tawanna Tarvin singing my favorite song, “Now behold the lamb”. She did a good job as well. It was a bit more screaming then I would like. I agreed with Donnie totally, who thought that she lost herself in the middle of the song.

Durward Davis was up next. He has a very strong voice!! He got me out of my seat! The judges couldn’t help but love him, I know I did.

Next up, LeeAndria Johnson. Her song choice was testimony of her life. She sung, “He was there all the time!”. She changed the song up and did an awesome job.

Three more to go..let’s go.,

David Wilford, sung “Great is Thy Faithfulness”. It was really laid back. Donnie liked the smoothness, both him and Yolanda thought it was given just right. Kim Burrell felt that he made her want to sing, and she did (just a little bit though).

Tiffany Carlin-Laird, sung “I Need Thee Every Hour”. I loved it!!!!! All the judges loved her!! Kim Burrell said, she made the competition look good!!

Elder Goldwire McLendon, said he just wait for the Lord to work through him!! Say What!! I LOVE HIM!! I LOVE HIM!! He sung “Yes Jesus Loves Me”. He is without a doubt my favorite, I know I know I shouldn’t say it!! But I have to be honest! Donnie sung, just like last time, it is like Elder McClendon’s anointing touches him!! What can I say….He brings out the best in the judges!! Yolanda said, “All I see is a man full of the Holy Ghost!!”. Donnie started preaching again!! I love it!!

Unfortunately, not all made it..those who we will see next week are..

Martha Burries, Tiffany Carlin-Laird, Dathan Thigpen, Duward Davis, Brian Smith, Elder Goldwire McClendon, LeeAndria Johnson, are staying.

See you all back here next week!!

Recap: Episode 6 of BET’s Sunday’s Best Season 3

Sunday's Best Season 3

The top 10 contenders were chosen and I am excited….already can’t wait until Sunday to see them do what they do best. It was a very interesting night….let’s do a quick recap..

The performance by Kurt Carr was amazing!! Did you enjoy it?

First up…from Indianapolis was Missy Augustine singing “How Great Is Our God”. Donnie, was quite candid in his opinion, letting her know that her voice is not mature enough, he felt that her performance overall was not captivating. Ouch!! Yolanda said, “You looked the part..watch your notes..the confidence and the notes”.

Second up, was Mr. Orlando..D. Wright!! I thought he was pretty good. Yolanda, seemed to enjoy it, she said, “You are annointed you love to praise God and it shows”. Donnie, “I love your confidence” and Tina noted, “We definitely gonna see you again..you came out and owned that stage”. I knew he would be a top contender!

Third up, Brittany Dear. I thought she seemed so nervous. Donnie and Tina agreed. She had a very good audition so I am hoping she move forward.

Next, David Wilfred, from Newark, NJ. Now this man can sing!! Donnie said, “David, if you could do that in 60 seconds, you kept control, you really did bless him”. But I think Yolanda said it best, when she said, “I loved the look, you convinced me that you bless the Lord not only for Sunday’s Best but at home”.

Tiffany Carlin-Laird, from Baton Rouge. I really liked her, a real force to reckon with. Her performance was effortless. Yolanda said, “You rocked it..I LOVE IT..I LOVE IT I LOVE IT”

Dathan Thigpen, who is married and has a baby boy on the way. He sung “Holy Holy Holy” Donnie simply said, “You literally just sang your heart to God”. You could really see the anointing in this young man of God.

Next, Ms. Martha Buries. I think I enjoyed her the most so far. She sung, “Our God is Awesome God”. Tina said, “When you came down the stairs, it is something about your voice that just captured me”. Donnie and Yolanda enjoyed it as well.

Next, Chicago’s own, Brian Smith. Tina summed it up best when she said, “Brother you got IT”.

Bethany Divine from Arkansas, kind of let me down. I was expecting so much more from her. The judges all agreed she could do better.

Vernell Payton, Jr. was last. He auditioned in 3 different states, and finally made it. He sung, “ Praise is what I do”. I have to be honest I got some disturbing comments about Mr. Payton from a few of my readers. I don’t know what to say, I hope they are not true. But Yolanda noted, I think you gave a voice but we are looking for who you are”. Tina, I think gave a critical observation when saying, “It was something that didn’t connect for me”. Donnie agreed.

Finally the 10 contenders were announced!! Can’t wait to see them next week!!
