Gospel music artist Bishop F.C. Barnes passes away at 82

Yesterday, Bishop F.C. (Faircloth) Barnes, probably best known for the hit gospel song “Rough Side of the Mountain” that he recorded with Rev. Janice Brown, passed away.

Bishop Barnes, who recently celebrated his 82nd birthday on June 22, has steadily gained national and international acclaim since being called into ministry nearly 60 years ago.

He has four sons, Samuel, Luther, Tony and Melvin. In early 2010, Bishop F.C.Barnes was inducted, along with his son Luther, into the AGQC Hall of Fame. In that same year, Bishop Barnes & Company received a Stellar Award nomination for their latest CD “The Old Time Way.” He also made an memorable appearance on BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel.

During his gospel musical career, Bishop Barnes recorded 15 albums.

Pastor Nathaniel Benjamin and The Second New St. Paul Baptist Church presents an Evening of Great Gospel Quartet. The featured artist will be Luther Barnes & The Sunset Jubilaires of Rocky Mount, NC. And their will performances by various local gospel artists, including: The Southern Gospel Singers, The Burning Bush, The Soul Messengerz, The Singing Angels and The SNSP Male Chorus.
